Stone Circle at Big Green Gathering

Designed and constructed by two EEDA regulars, John Martineau and Shaun Kirwan just before Big Green Gathering 2005. The design is derived from the work of the late archeoastronomer Alexander Thom who studied stone circles throughout the British Isles and Northern Europe but found many of them were not often perfectly circular (Stonehenge an exception). According to Thom, they were 'Type 1' or 'Type 2' flattened circles. There were also elipses and various other interesting geometries. This particular circle is aligned to several major sites in the area, notably Priddy Circles - three earthworks nearby; and Stanton Drew triple stone circle, which is directly 45 degrees Notrtheast from the centre of the Fernhill Farm Stone Circle.
